Baking more Cookies

Recipe: Crispy Oatmeal Cookies(Adapted from Joy of Baking)

If you had been reading my older posts, you would be aware of my cookie crazy daughter and hubby. So baking cookies are always a joy for me.
It's certainly a wonderful feeling to watch your loved ones devour on the food you make in complete relish. Well, these cookies were made quite some time back, but couldn't put them up due to many other hold ups.

Cookies that melt in the mouth !!

Recipe : Mexican wedding cake/Russian tea cake/Snowball

Hostel life, though had its sour and bitter sides , has been one of the best days of my life. I am sure everybody who has lived in a hostel for at least a short span will surely agree to this.

I know, hostel means, living out of suitcases for may be 4-5 years, using common and not so clean baths, sleeping on empty or half filled tummies and worst, eating stuffs that you would never have had otherwise, petty fights and misunderstandings with buddies and roomies and yes, the awkward patch ups.

A Seedy Delicacy

Recipe: Chakkakuru,Manga and Unakka chemmeen Curry (Kerala Style Jack fruit seed,Raw Mango and dried shrimp gravy)

I am sure my earlier posts give enough evidence of my intense love for traditional Kerala cuisine and this one is just a mere extension of that undisputed adoration.
Well, I had made this quite a long time back and now getting this post ready makes me crave for more but unfortunately I am left with no Jack fruit seeds.
A few weeks back a close friend of ours gave me some jack fruits, all cleaned and ready to eat. All I had to do was de-seed them and eat, and luckily for me neither my girl nor my hubby are great fans of this fruit :)
After devouring the fruit, my eyes fell on the seeds and then all I could think of was my mom's mouthwatering Chakkakuru Curry. It's been ages since I had some..... And then I was missing my mom like crazy too :(

Going Chinese!!

Recipe: Easy Chinese Fried Rice

Some days can be quite a drag.... All you want to do is flop on a sofa and laze around the whole day, if you could help. But unfortunately, with a little girl to feed, that wonderful day dream almost always remains a dream :(
Now, yesterday was one such day and I just couldn't think about doing any elaborate cooking, cleaning or anything productive so to say. Breakfast went smooth with a bowl of cereal :). But as lunch time approached, and with no leftovers stocked in the fridge I was forced to drag myself off the sofa and into my kitchen.
Rummaging through my fridge, I landed on a bowl of basmati rice. Hey, now that gave me lovely idea..... Fried rice, so easy to make and yet very scrumptious and my little one would have it with no much ado... Yippee perfect.

A Salad for the Soul!!

Recipe: Pasta Salad

Pasta Salads of any kind are my usual pick at any salad counters. Though I do enjoy all kinds salads except the ones with sea food in them, my salad plate will always have a lions share of pasta salad, followed by coleslaw and potato salad. The usual green salads and stuffs take a regular  back seat, not that I detest them, just that I am highly partial towards the former ones.

Now, its at the salad bar that my husband and I have that rare and completely opposing preferences, well, he is more of a green salad lover and unfortunately intolerant to creamy, dressing coated salads.

An all time Favourite!!

Recipe: Uzhunu Vada (Spiced Lentil Fritters)

I don't  think these crispy, mildly spiced snack from down south of India needs any special intro. It's an any time hit with my entire family, but of course it's enormous calorie content prevents me from making it a frequenter a home. But I guess, some sporadic indulgences can be justified ;)
Who can really resist a platter of some hot, crispy vadas served with coconut chutney and sambar......... Not me anyways!!

A Delightful Custard-Chocolate Combo :)

Recipe:  Custard Sponge Gateau (Adapted from Ria's Collection)

Early morning wakys were never ever my cup of tea and still never is ..... I had kind of long forgotten the 5 o clock and 6 clock wake up calls ever since post graduation.
While moving back to the Middle East after marriage my only big concern was the early morning wake ups that I did have to go through again..... But you could imagine my elation when I discovered that my hubby was one of those very rare lucky people out here who had to get to work only by 10 am. My life looked picture perfect for almost 3 years from then... 8 O clock alarms, a baby who would wake up only by 10 am, evening outings almost everyday.... What a life don't you think!!!

Healthy and Hearty

Recipe: Vazha Pindi and Vanpayar Mezhukkuparati (Plantain stem and Red Cow peas stir fry)

Its my little girls final assessment time. And that means, she will be moving on to her next grade in less than a month..... Man, that's fast...... Unbelievably fast.....I am still afresh about me feeling  overwhelmed about my girl moving away from preschool and now, she's already moving up the grades. Wish she wouldn't grow up so fast :(

Going back to the Roots!!!

Recipe: Kappa Masala/Kolli Masala(Tapioca/Cassava Masala)

Though I love to devour all kinds of cuisines and completely enjoy various combination of tastes and flavours, there is something irreplaceable about the authentic, warm and welcoming tastes of our own homeland. There is nothing more comforting than getting back home to your mom's cooking and to the tastes that you have grown up with.

Recipe: Egg less Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake

A very happy Valentines Day to all my friends, readers and fellow bloggers.
And yes, my little space turned one on November 19, 2012,but unfortunately I couldn't treat my baby with anything special then. Guess, there is no better day than this to show my love to this humble blog of mine which opened my eyes to a whole new world of culinary delights. It gave me new friends with similar love and helped me gain more insight into my big time passion ,baking!!!
I learned lots of new techniques, skills and the courage to try out recipes which maybe I would have never done otherwise.

Pasta made Indian :)

Recipe:Pasta with Curried Minced Meat

There are certain dishes that we get no where else but home...... Simply because they are one-of-the kind Creations by your mom. I believe, the dish I present here is one such. I am not sure if anything similar is available else where but this, very Indian pasta, I have eaten only from my mom's hand and now from mine, when I try to replicate her :)

Those Brown Wonders.....Guilt Free!!!

Recipe: Low-Fat Brownies
We are a family of chocolate lovers, my daughter, following right behind... My hubby and of course me!!
Anything with a cocoa ingredient never last longer than a day or 2 at my home.Very obviously, the first cake I baked was chocolate, the first cookie was Choco chip ...and the list goes on..
So, now I don't think I really have to talk much about our love for brownies. They are one of the easiest and according to me, the best solutions for a sudden and acute chocolate craving.

So little ingredients, so little effort , and yet a very exquisite and perfectly chocolatey output.

Our Very Own Desi Cookies

Recipe: Naankhatai (Cardamom flavoured Indian Cookies)

It is really amusing to see how your child can be quite similar to you in some aspect and at the same time a complete contrast to what you are in most ways. I couldn't help beaming with pride when I discovered how much me my 4 year old daughter is with her keen interest in cooking.

The Classic Chocolate Chip

Recipe: Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies are always a run away hit at my home.  Always make enough quantity to last a week, but the jar goes empty within a couple of days . The culprits are non other than my little darling and her dad :)
Know what I do now.... I hide away a few so that I can pack them up in my little girls lunch box , she's sure to come back with her box empty, oh, what a rare joy!!!!
I have been making these yummy cookies for a long time now, but somehow never felt like posting them in my space, well, this time I have decided to do these all the favs some justice too.

Passionate about Ice Creams....

Recipe: Passion Fruit And Nutella Ice Cream ( Egg less and Machineless)

A big hello to all my buddies out there, here I am, back after a long 2 months of break. Well, unlike most of my other vanishing acts, this one was a very intentional one and I apologise for not giving prior notice. Before going into all those details, first things first, here is wishing all those wonderful people out there a very belated and yet a very very Happy and Prosperous NEW YEAR !!!!
